<< ARKA KINARI >>
A vintage, 70 tonne sailing ship with world leading artivists at the helm.
Changing the world, powered only by sun, wind and art.
The pirates.
It’s not everyday that a ship sails into Meanjin and blows you away with it. Yet, this is just what happened when Arka Kinari arrived in Brisbane, as part of Brisbane Powerhouse’ OHM 2024 Program.
Jumping at the chance to see a mutual friend Sumu, (who has a talent for appearing randomly - and changing the course of your life) I made it along to the show despite the many hours of sleep I was missing during the programming crunch of ISEA. Here, I was re-uinited with the lead artists of this project; Filastine & Nova. Both were part of the long and beautiful chaos that was Uberlingua.
Many emails, zooms, conversations and WhatsApps later, I am now working as their Curator & Executive Producer, International Programs & documenting that via a PhD on Ethical Touring in a post-carbon economy.
The rest is everywhen.. simultaneously present, history and future, determined by place. A well timed interruption that has fed me creatively and taught me a lot about geography since.
